Sisterhood & Friendship

Updated: Oct 23, 2020

Having true friendships is a blessing. There is nothing more pure than having sisters you can count on..whether blood related or not. I have stressed the importance of this to my own children (now all adults) and why it is essential to nurture friendships from a young age. And..if you are lucky, a few of those relationships will stay with you throughout your entire life. Your loyalty, trust, and good heart will go the distance. Of course, there will be hurt from time to time, but for the most part, If you are a good person, I believe solid friendships will follow you. Other women will be drawn to you and will want to share in your sunshine.

My oldest friends are with sisters that my sister and I have known for over 50 years...and that is both rare and amazing. We are all close and get together whenever possible. We've been through everything together..the good, the bad, and the ugly. The camaraderie and lifelong stories sisters share is a bond that cannot be broken or rivaled. There's just too much history...think about it...most have gone through a lifetime of sharing in tears, joy, hardships, children, and carry secrets that we'll take to the grave. As women, we are the backbone of our families. Women have an internal strength that cannot be matched. True story.

“Don’t talk about my sister; don’t play with me about my sister. If you do, you’ll see another side of me.”

—Beyoncé

50+ Years of Friendship

“I know my sister like I know my own mind/You will never find anyone as trusting or as kind…I love my sister more than anything in this life/I will choose her happiness over mine every time.”

Hamilton

Throughout my life, I have chosen friendships with women who I admire, respect, and look up to. My closest girlfriends from my 20's, along with my childhood besties, later became my bridesmaids and are still in my life. We have 30+ years of crazy memories that involved boys, clubbing, more boys, a whole lot of alcohol, and even more clubbing..until we met our significant others. Throughout the years, we've managed a few glorious girls' vaca's and one with our significant others and kids to the Poconos (that was a crazy-big get together). I'm pretty happy with my life, but every now and then, I do reminisce and wish I could just get five more minutes back with all my girls in one place..because they just always managed to put a big-fat smile on my face and crack my ass up. There was never a dull moment. It was mostly innocent and always a good time. We all live in different states now..all grown up with our own responsibilities. Thank God for Instagram, facebook, and zoom, which have been so helpful in keeping us in touch with each other.

Once this Covid nightmare is over, I'll have to put my travel expertise together and form a girls-getaway plan. I love these girls soooo much and hold our memories dear to my heart. I have an album that I keep in my closet that's just for me. I look through it whenever I'm having a bad day or just need a moment to smile and remember. Most of us now have our own daughters, and it's remarkable to see all that we have created and accomplished. It's a miracle, and we are all truly blessed.

Friends, Mothers, and Daughters

"Girls will be your friends – they’ll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything – they’re your true best friends."

– Marilyn Monroe

I can honestly say the majority of women I know have endured their share of struggles. Through the tough times, we've been there to lift one another up because that's what sisterhood is about. We've been there to support each other when dealing with cancer and disease; We've been there throughout the bad relationships, while still being supportive, and we've also been there to see our dearest friends...find love again. Women know all about perseverance. Mothers, sisters, daughters, nurturers, healers, and helpers. We are are survivors; we are resilient. (We should be running the world!!)

I'm sending a big high five to all the wonderful women out there and to all that have surrounded my life with the good. Here are just a few of my super heroes. I Love you all!
